Never one to choose the traditional path of releasing new music, M.I.A. has put out a new song through a back channel. After a group of fans banded together to collectively harangue her for new music on Twitter, she obliged them and e-mailed one a new track called “atTENTtion”, which has since been leaked on YouTube, as Popjustice points out. Now, it has been confirmed that this is, indeed, a new M.I.A. song.

It’s classic M.I.A.: “The fullest attempt in my intent/ Is to let you know what is important/ My existence is militant/ Cause my content bangs like it’s potent.” No word yet whether this will appear on the upcoming Mathangi, which doesn’t have a release date as of yet.
