Kahli Abdu & VHS Safari – ‘A.R.T. Project’

This is great.

Afro-Electro trio Kahli Abdu & VHS Safari has released its debut full-length album, A.R.T. Project on OkayAfrica. Sonically, A.R.T. Project is an adventurous trip through a number of genres. Each track has its own distinct identity artfully reflected with striking collages created by Lisa Jaeggi of Darling Din.

A.R.T. Project has been years in the making. The album feels more like a curated gallery than a collection of recordings. VHS Safari has provided the perfect palette for Abdu’s complex words, and the album includes everything from uplifting tracks like “Take You Higher” to the politically charged “Take A Picture.”
Kahli Abdu & VHS Safari have created a unique sound that combines influences from hip hop, indie pop, and African music. The group is comprised of Nigerian artist Kahli Abdu and production duo VHS Safari consisting of D.C. natives David Muehlenkamp and Will Whitney.

Kahli Abdu & VHS Safari will perform at Brooklyn Bowl on February 23, 2015.
